Prof Varma brings a unique combination of clinical practice, examination experience, regulatory insight, and academic research to every element of MD Acumen. He is not an advisor or a figurehead — he is the clinical architect, the content author, and the lead faculty. His vision for MD Acumen is that postgraduate medical education should be expert-led, evidence-based, and technologically advanced — but never at the expense of clinical authenticity.
Professor Tham Nimal-Raj

His career is marked by a unique blend of clinical expertise — specialising in hypertension, diabetes, and community diagnostics — and an entrepreneurial vision that has seen the successful launch of multiple medical enterprises.
Honours & Memberships
Fellow of the Royal Society of Health. Former Council Member, British Medical Association (BMA).
Two professors. One vision.
MD Acumen was founded on the conviction that postgraduate medical education in the UK can be better — more rigorous, more personalised, more technologically advanced, and more clinically authentic. Between them, Prof Varma and Prof Nimal-Raj bring over six decades of NHS clinical practice, academic teaching, examination experience, and institutional leadership to every element of the platform.
The company they have built is not a content aggregator or a question bank reseller. It is a clinician-led educational institution with a technology platform — designed by the doctors who have trained the doctors, examined the doctors, written the guidelines, and practised the medicine.
